The name Štajerska conjures up an image of something green, harmonious, and pleasant. Štajerska is an apple, a bottle of fine wine, delicious local dishes, and cheerful people. Wherever you go in Štajerska, you will find natural beauty and an astonishingly rich cultural and historical heritage. The friendly farms of the Upper Savinja Valley, Pohorje, Podravje, Slovenske Gorice, Haloze, and Kozjansko regions offer peace and tranquillity to weary townsfolk. Stajerska is interesting year-round: skiing in winter, excursions in summer, and the grape harvest in autumn. Štajerska brews the best beer and its cellars hold the finest wines. Thermal springs refresh and reinvigorate the traveler, and visits to its many historical sites and cultural events enrich the spirit. /Matjaž Kocbek/
Ormož and its surroundings consist of southeastern part of Slovenske gorice which divides the flat land into Ptujsko and Središko fields. The flat land spreads along the Drava River from west to east and represents a passage between Pannonian plain and the hilly hinterland. It has been considered through centuries as an important traffic axis and has been densely populated since the Bronze Age. It was a border territory through centuries and Ormož itself was owned by many noble families. The religious organization was much more unified and the whole territory was ruled by the parish church in Velika Nedelja (link na Veliko Nedeljo). Ormož has grown into administrative and commercial center of the region, Središče is an important market town, and Velika Nedelja was the ecclesiastical center and was the seat of German Knights Order until the Second World War. Ormož is surrounded by vineyards and fields, rich in natural beauties and cultural monuments. Kog and Svetinje have vineyards yielding wines of international reputation and breathtaking views.
Hotel accommodation must be arranged by participants themselves. The organizer has made a reservation for several rooms in the Hotel Turist in the center of Ljubljana (when reserving mention that you are a participant of the statistical conference).
