If you received this e-mail, then you (or one of your students) were a winner in the GD 98 Graph Drawing contest. In some cases I did not have an e-mail address, so please forward this message as appropriate. Here are the official results: Category A ---------- Hon. Mentions: U. Brandes, V. Kaab, A. Loh, D. Wagner, and T. Willhalm T. Wurst Category B ---------- 1st: A. Mrvar and V. Batagelj 2nd: M. Wissen Category C ---------- 1st: P.A. Santoso and A. Surjanto 2nd: E. Pasztor and D. Tsao Category D ---------- 1st: R. Wiese (??? -- MK, do I have the correct name???) 2nd (tie): T. Biedl T. Biedl, J. Marks, K.Ryall, and S. Whitesides Marco Sbarrini and Valerio Violi Notes: Categories A-C were judged by committee, whereas Category D was voted on by all symposium attendees. Conflicts of interest were avoided on an honor basis. No first place was awarded for Category A because the judges felt that no submission constituted a fully satisfactory solution to the very difficult problem of interactive layout. However, the full amount of prize money was split between the two best submissions, that were accorded "Honorable Mentions" and will be described in the contest report. Tasks: I need suitable PostScript files of a SINGLE DRAWING for inclusion in the contest write-up for the symposium proceedings. If your submission was a video or demo, I need a suitable screen dump. I NEED TO RECEIVE THESE FILES WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. I may also request you individually to more fully describe your winning entry. I also need from you the address where you would like your winnings sent, and the name to appear on the cheque. Approximately $300 U.S. will be awarded in each category, split 2:1 between first and second, and shared equally in the event of a tie. Congratulations again, and thanks for participating! -- Peter Eades, Joe Marks, Petra Mutzel, and Stephen North
